This year will definitely be different than the past. This will be the first holiday we are away from family, meaning there won't be 20+ people cramming around tables in Connecticut, but instead, a little more intimate get together. My parents are renting a place in Harbor Town on Hilton Head Island and we will be with them for Thanksgiving. They're driving down so my mom can bring her roasting pan and everything she could possibly need for Thanksgiving dinner.
I'll be making side dishes and desserts to bring. I wanted to do a couple of traditional things we always had at Thanksgiving when I was growing up as well as a couple of Southern-inspired dishes. I've also been watching way too much Food Network lately, so my new dishes are definitely inspired by some of my favorite ladies. In addition to my mom's turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade cranberry sauce, here's what we will be having:
Apple Crunch Pie
One of Mike's family friends gave us this beautiful pie dish for our wedding that matches our kitchen. On the bottom, it has a recipe for this pie that I cannot wait to try!

This all sounds amazing! You can't go wrong with the Pioneer Woman or Paula Deen recipes :) Thanks for sharing the apple crunch pie recipe - I think I need to try that one!
I'd eat all of those things! See? Who needs to eat meat with sides like that!
That pie dish!! LOVE!!
This time of yea, I record sooo many Food Network holiday specials! I want to make them all! Happy first married Thanksgiving :)
Yum, yum and yum! Enjoy your first married Thanksgiving!
I love that pie dish gift!
I spent a lot of time with Food Network this weekend. Ree's dish looks amazing.
Pioneer Woman for the win!
Yum! All of this sounds amazing!
Sounds like you have some great dishes planned. Most of my Thanksgiving recipes came from watching a ton of Food Network's Thanksgiving shows, and you cannot go wrong with the Pioneer Woman. She has a pecan pie recipe with Whiskey Maple Cream Sauce that I love to make, really for the cream sauce...ha! I love that pie dish, and how cool that it came with a pie recipe on the bottom. That is a great wedding gift!
That pie dish is really pretty and the pie sounds really good too. I need to search for a new recipe to try for this year's dessert.
Oh I love that Pie Dish!!! The menu sounds delicious...I am also working on my Southern/Puerto Rican Thanksgiving meal. I live in South Carolina, and I am Puerto Rican...so, I will combine both cooking styles for a yummy meal.
Yarikza, that sounds like a fantastic combination of flavors!! I've LOVED all of the food I've found in SC so far :)
It can seem a little overwhelming having the first big holiday away from everything you're used to, but with all that good food it will be amazing! I'm glad your parents will be there to spend it with y'all! This will be my first Thanksgiving back with family in two years. Being in CT/MA we were always alone!
I am all about the Pioneer Woman soul sweet taters! Looks so good!
Sautéed greens are also a good Southern option. We had 5 people last year, so we did just a turkey breast to cut down on leftovers.
Oh those sweet taters look so delish!! I know what you mean about it being pretty different without the whole family crowded into one space, but you will have such a great time with your parents!
Looks SOOO good! Loving your new layout also, so fab!
