Weekend Exploring: The Greenway

This weekend, my parents were in town!  As always, we had a fantastic time exploring the city: we obviously ate too much (my dad somehow hadn't been to Zia yet - gasp!) and even celebrated Mike's birthday (a little early) with an amazing cake from my mom.  To burn all those calories, on the way home from the Charleston Tea Plantation, we took a long walk on the Greenway.  The East Coast Greenway is a 2,500+ mile traffic-free path linking Calais, Maine and Key West, Florida.  A lot of it (about 73%), especially in South Carolina, is currently under construction, but we're lucky to have a fantastic 8 mile stretch in West Ashley, just across the road from where we live.  The whole 8 miles run along an old train track, both through beautifully wooded areas and the Stono River banks.  We've gone to the greenway many times, and it's a great place to walk, run, bike, and even do some geocaching :)

Linking up for Weekend Recap, Weekending, and Monday Madness!

Y'all had a great weekend with your parents it sounds like. YES to Zia! I used to live right off the Greenway and would walk it but this was like 8 years ago hah. Glad they are working to improve it more!

What a fun place to go. With 8 miles there is plenty of places to explore.

That's really cool that y'all live so close to it! It sounds like that's going to be a really neat trail once finished. We are 1/2 a mile as the crow flies from the Appalachian Trail (2 miles driving to a trailhead). We've done a little exploring on it, but we really want to check it out this spring/summer!

I had no idea the Greenway stretched that far! I've never even walked on it before, such a slacker! I've always heard it wasn't very safe. I'm sure it was one story I heard and now it's all I think about when I hear of the Greenway!
