In the last couple of years, when cooking anything, I've been all about the mentality of: the spicier, the better. Recently, I had a cookie with cayenne pepper in it and discovered that chocolate + spice is the most delicious combo ever. We had friends over last week for dinner, and after tacos, these seemed like the perfect sweet and spicy treat.
Ingredients:- 2 sticks salted butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup special dark cocoa powder
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a saucepan, melt butter on medium-low heat. (Do not boil.)
3. Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in sugar, followed by the rest of the ingredients.
4. Spread batter onto a parchment-lined and buttered 13 by 9 inch pan.
5. Sprinkle on chocolate chips (this will allow them not to sink to the bottom of the brownies).
6. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out just a little fudgy.
7. Allow to cool in the pan and slice into squares.
Even if you don't like spice, this homemade brownie recipe is legit. I've never had homemade brownies I liked before this, and now these are my go-to. If you're looking to remove the heat, substitute the cinnamon and cayenne for an additional 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

wow these look super gooey and yummy! I am def gonna try them!
I'm curious what that even tastes like with heat in there. The idea of adding cinnamon sounds delish though too!
Yum! I need to make these stat!
So I'm so obsessed with spicy food, but I never would have thought to add it to traditionally sweet desserts! I definitely need to try out this recipe!
HOLY YUM! Love the idea of chocolate and spice <3

Oh my!!!! I love mexican chocolate and these look amazing.
These look amazing, am going to try them with the cayenne. I can't believe you haven't found a great homemade brownie recipe until now. To me, boxed usually just tastes so artificial and the texture can't compare. Two to try: the "Cocoa Brownies" from the Joy of Baking site and Katharine Hepburn's classic recipe which can easily be found online.
these sound so good!!
